Don't let there be war. Don't let there be war. Don't let there be war. There are several wars currently ongoing in the world. What incredible suffering, for all involved. Especially close seems the conflict in Ukraine, who have now held Putin back for 877 days. Total defence only has the desired effect if we really intend on carrying it through. Should we be invaded it is my choice to resist to the best of my ability, armed if necessary. Our society is, after all, quite beautiful, worthy of and possible to defend.
I prefer not to watch the most graphic videos. I did however listen to some compatriots in Ukraine who recorded while helping with demining. Hearing my own language, being able to identify dialects and detect the nuances of the words spoken makes the experience almost surreal. There on land not to different from ours walks a man who could have been my neighbor. Tomorrow he could be dead.
The Ukrainians deserve our help. Democracy and culture deserve defending, and I believe they can be defended. Maybe not on the battlefield, maybe not for our generation, but for the next. This opinion is not easy for me to hold. The losses in an armed conflict are great and not counted in human lives or capital only. Don't let there be war. Don't let there be war.
